The Midnight Cinema Shadow Cast is one of the first Repo Shadow Casts in the World. We started out as a Rocky Horror Picture Show Cast and found and fell in Love with Repo! The Genetic Opera in late 2008.
Our Cast Leader Wolf tried to secure the rights to show the film during the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival but missed the cut off date by two weeks. So we had to wait until after the holidays. That whole time Wolf and Morgan were coming up with ideas about how to do the show with a shadow cast.
Wolf had seen the whole movie over the summer of 2008 and there were enough clips on You Tube to work out the costume details. We had our very first show on January 9th 2009.
For that first show Midnight Cinema performed Zydrate Anatomy in full costume. Our cast line up had Wolf as Grave Robber, Mel as Amber, Niko and Philia as Amber's body guards and Auriana as Shilo. Then we added scenes over the course of Repo!'s 35mm run at Cinema Paradiso in Downtown Fort Lauderdale.
The Initial run was set for Jan 9th to Jan11th During these shows we added scenes everyday. Jan 10th we added 21st Century Cure and the epilogue Jan 11th we added Mark it up, Gold and Happiness is not a Warm Scalpel. We were elated to find out that we were held over for another week So we did shows Jan 15th, 16th 17th and Jan 18th by the time we were done we had performed the entire show in full costume we also added to our cast.
Then we had six weeks of downtime due to the local Ren Faire. While we didn't perform the show during February we worked on improving our costumes, adding props and working on the blocking as well as figuring out where we had costume change problems. Our next show would be the big one. We had a date set for March 20th and we wanted the show to be perfect.
There has been some confusion about weather or not this was our 1st show. While technically it wasn't. It was our first Double Feature with Rocky Horror and We certainly added to the costumes and props We would consider January 17th 2009 to be our 1st full show and March 20th as our 1st completed vision of what we wanted a night of Repo and Rocky to be. We Sold Out our theater for that show it helped that we were celebrating Morgan's 20th birthday.
So there it is. We started as a Rocky Horror Shadow Cast and have now formed an almost entirely new cast for Repo!. Midnight Cinema is our name and our home Is Cinema Paradiso We are performing monthly and maybe in the future bi-monthly showings of Repo! along with Rocky Horror and who knows what else in the future.
